The story begins mentioning that king tut, the boy king who is known to have died young, had not in fact never die, as he was sent by Horus to protect the people of Egypt from being killed by the evil Seth, who manages to escape from the underworld and cause chaos in the region. Asking Horus to give him strength, he manages to fight Seth, but not without injuring himself. In order to keep Seth from returning, Tut destroyed the tablet and sent the 4 pieces the corners of the planet, but not without being sent to block Seth from the returning by staying in the underworld. The movie is then set in Cairo, in 1922, the film starts with the archaeologist Danny Freemont (played by Casper Van Dien) who is desperately trying to enter the tomb of Tutankhamun. It has the last of four pieces of an ancient emerald tablet which is said to possess great occult powers. Though he has managed to find all four pieces of the emerald, they have all been stolen in the process.. His rival is the academic Morgan Sinclair (played by Jonathan Hyde), who stole the first three parts of the emerald for the committee of the Hellfire Council, a secret committee of powerful men. They intend to use the tablet in order to maintain and extend their world domination.
