Andrew (Dane DeHaan), a high school teenager, starts videotaping his day-to-day life. At home, he is bullied by his abusive and alcoholic father (Michael Kelly), who is bitter about a firefighting injury that forced him to retire and by the fact that Andrew's mother is dying from cancer. At school, Andrew is unpopular and friendless, and frequently bullied. One night, while attending a local rave located in a converted barn with and at the urging of his cousin, Matt (Alex Russell), Andrew is approached by Steve (Michael B. Jordan), the school’s popular star quarterback. Steve tells him that he and Matt have found something strange (revealed to be a mysterious hole in the ground that emits a loud and strange noise) and they want Andrew to come film it. The three of them enter the hole where they discover a large, glowing, crystalline object. Andrew's camera footage begins to distort and, upon Steve touching the object, the teenagers noses begin to bleed profusely and they experience great pain. The object’s glow shifts from blue to red and the camera blacks out. Several weeks later, Andrew, Matt, and Steve are shown to have developed telekinetic powers from their experience, able to manipulate objects with their minds but causing nosebleeds when they overextend their abilities. When they go to visit the hole again, they learn that it has sunk in and the area has been sealed off by the Sheriff’s department.
Matt Garetty has not been a contender in any CBUB matches.
