Bulletstorm does not have any competitive multiplayer modes, preferring instead to include cooperative online play as well as score attack modes. Bulletstorm takes place in the 26th century, where the Confederation of Planets are protected by a secret black-ops army called Dead Echo. The story follows space pirate Grayson Hunt and his cyborg partner Ishi Sato (Andrew Kishino), whose squad went AWOL after discovering that they were tricked into killing innocent civilians, instead of the ruthless drug dealers and mass murderers that their commanding officer General Sarrano told them they were killing. Ten years later, after a spontaneous and liquor-induced attempt to take revenge on the General and his forces, Hunt's and Ishi's ship crash-landed on the planet Stygia, a former resort planet now overrun with meat-eating plants, feral mutant tribes, criminals, and Godzilla-sized monsters. After waking up, Hunt is told by the ship's doctor that Ishi is gravely injured, and he requires an energy cell to power the surgery equipment needed to save him. Hunt and his comrade Rell go off to retrieve an energy cell from a fallen escape pod. Upon arrival, Hunt and Rell discover that Sarrano has made an entirely new unit to replace them called Final Echo. They watch as a lone Final Echo soldier attempts to dispatch the criminals attacking him, but dies by the crash and explosion of an armored car driven right toward him. At the moment of his death, Hunt and Rell retrieve the energy cell inside the escape pod, and Hunt also takes the Final Echo instinct leash from the fallen Final Echo soldier. They make it back to the ship to deliver the energy cell to the doctor. The doctor successfully merges Ishi's brain with the ship's AI in order to preserve his life. However, at the end of the procedure, bandits break into the ship through the air vents and kill the doctor. Hunt, who is dazed, takes a gun lying near him and shoots an explosive barrel that Rell was holding, killing Rell and the bandits in the room and knocking himself and Ishi unconscious. When he wakes up, he sees Ishi lying against a rock, and the two decide to work together to survive, despite Ishi's anger at Hunt for endangering and killing most of the crew as a result of his liquor-induced thirst for revenge.
Grayson Hunt has not been a contender in any CBUB matches.
