David was introduced in the Season 3 premiere episode "Kill Ari (Part 1)" and became a regular cast member from the episode "Silver War" as a replacement of Caitlin "Kate" Todd, portrayed by Sasha Alexander during the first two seasons. David is a former agent of the Israel Mossad, originally assigned to NCIS as a liaison officer. In Season 7, she resigned from Mossad for good and became a probationary NCIS agent, pending United States citizenship. In the Season 7 finale, she revealed that she had passed her citizenship exam, and was eventually sworn in as a U.S. citizen. Ziva's father, Eli David, was a Mossad operative for most of his life, and is currently the director, having previously been at the position of Deputy Director. Ziva had a younger sister, (Tali), who was killed in a Hamas suicide bombing when she was sixteen years old.
