Read more about Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander at: Wikipedia Official Site: Terry Goodkind Zeddicus "Zedd" Zu'l Zorander is a main character in the fictional The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. He is the grandfather of Richard Rahl and a wizard of the First Order. Zedd is very close with Richard's lover, Mother Confessor Kahlan and thinks of her as something of a granddaughter. Zedd has a romantic relationship with the sorceress Adie. Zedd has also used the alias Ruben Rybnik while he was traveling incognito. Zedd is portrayed by Bruce Spence in the live-action Legend of the Seeker, a syndicated TV series produced by Sam Raimi. Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, who goes by Zedd most of the time, is an old man with pale, lucid skin that drapes loosely over a collection of bony projections that make him look as frail as a dry stick; he is described as average height. He has scrawny, twig-like fingers and spindly arms and his bottom lacks any padding whatsoever. He is anything but frail, though. His voice is normally as thin as the rest of him. He typically wears simple, plain, unadorned robes which show his rank as an extremely powerful wizard. In fact, he is likely one of the most powerful wizards alive, with only Richard holding more power. At one point in the series he implies that he could level a mountain if need be. Zedd uses only the Additive side of magic; he has the ability to take that which is around him, like heat, and add to it until it becomes something more, like Wizard's Fire. When he is exposed to or comes in contact with the other side of magic, the Subtractive, he finds it to be a very uncomfortable experience. His face has sharp, keen features and angles with thin lips and intelligent hazel eyes. His jaw is smooth and is kept clean-shaven and wavy white hair that sticks out at odd angles, loaning him a slightly eccentric look. Despite his thin body, he is notorious for his voracious appetite and will eat almost anything offered to him, without putting on any weight. When he talks, he speaks with a keen wisdom and insight; more often than not, he interjects his speech with humor and amusing insights. One of his favorite phrases is "Bags", which is a curse word in Sword of Truth. As a young man, Zedd's face was pleasant to look upon and gentle in appearance. His wavy brown hair looked ungovernable, but his eyes seemed to see all, to know all, to understand all. He is in line with Richard—Lord Rahl—who is just starting to learn his part in the world. |
