Read more about Echo (Star Wars) at: Wikipedia Official Site: LucasFilm Clone troopers are fictional characters in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. They have been featured in a number of Star Wars media, including Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), The Clone Wars animated film (2008), the related television series of the same name (2008-2014; 2020), and the Rebels television series (2014-2018), as well as comics, novels, and video games of the Star Wars Legends expanded universe. Bred at the cloning facilities on the ocean planet Kamino by the native Kaminoans from their genetic template, Jango Fett, clone troopers were created to serve the Galactic Republic, which lacked a proper military force, in the wake of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' formation. They were the basis of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars (which takes its name from the troopers), where, under the command of the Jedi Order, they fought against Separatists' battle droid army. In reality, however, clone troopers were nothing more than a tool that Chancellor Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, used to wipe out the Jedi Order. The clone army was commissioned by Palpatine's Sith apprentice and Separatist leader Count Dooku long before the Clone Wars, but the Jedi were led to believe that deceased Jedi Master Sifo Dyas was the one who ordered its creation. Futhermore, all clones were genetically modified to age at twice the rate of a normal human, and be predisposed toward unquestioning obedience to the chain of command, including being outfitted with mind-controlling chips. As such, at the end of the Clone Wars, which Palpatine had used to rise to power, the Sith Lord issued Order 66, which caused the clone troopers to execute their Jedi commanders, now seen as traitors of the Republic. Following the Republic's conversion into the Galactic Empire, clone troopers became more and more uncommon as they were slowly replaced by stormtroopers. During the Imperial era, only one notable clone region remained: the 501st Legion, aka "Vader's Fist", which was commanded by Darth Vader and had previously served under his Jedi identity, Anakin Skywalker, during the Clone Wars. During development of The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas initially conceived a planet of clones, which is why the Clone Wars was mentioned for the first time in the original Star Wars film. The clone trooper armor was designed to suggest an evolution into the stormtroopers of the original trilogy, and it incorporated features from both the armor of stormtroopers and Boba Fett, revealed in Attack of the Clones to be an unaltered clone of Jango. The armored troopers in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are computer-generated images voiced by Temuera Morrison, who played Jango. Younger clones were played by Bodie Taylor and Daniel Logan, who played the younger Boba. Unhelmeted clones were played by both Morrison and Taylor, who wore bodysuits to isolate their heads, and some clone troopers featured a blend of the actors' features. In the animated The Clone Wars film and television series, adult clone troopers are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker and child clone troopers are voiced by Logan. While the prequel trilogy depicted clone troopers as soldiers lacking any personality, The Clone Wars animated film and television series introduced numerous clones with distinctive traits, who quickly became fan favorites. The television series in particular explored clone troopers' motivations and feelings about the Clone Wars, humanizing them. Numerous Star Wars works set during the Clone Wars era feature clone troopers as the main characters. Like their successors, the stormtroopers, clone troopers have become cultural icons, and a widely recognized element of the Star Wars franchise.
