-Perpetual Motion: a construct by which infinite energy is created out of nothingness.
The concept has been around since the Renaissance; it was not until 1851 that a small band of intellectuals, scientists, and philosophers took the idea out of the physical and mechanical, and applied it to the universal and metaphorical. Humanity is the engine; out of a seeming nothingness we came, and from that we created constructs of science, philosophy, and all thought. We are the perfect example of perpetual motion in action. Yet the very idea of perpetual motion is an inherent fallacy.
From this there can only be one conclusion: the engine of progress that is man will eventually lose momentum, society will collapse in upon itself, ending the cycle forever.
Set in an anachronistic backdrop of an alternate Earth, Infinium is the name of a cloak and dagger myriad of individuals who have stepped forth to safeguard humanity's right to continuous growth, momentum and progression. Founded during the Renaissance and flourishing during the Age of Enlightenment, their definitive background has been hidden for centuries within a tight-knit bond of brotherhood. Their unorthodox, avante garde and sometimes offensive contemplations have kept them from fully being accepted into modern culture, forcing them to stay underground. But whenever humanity’s manifest destiny is threatened, the Brotherhood of Infinium answers the call. Throughout time, they have faced dangers ranging from old gods rising from the ocean depths to claim the world, massive alien invasions, to cruel dictatorial leaders threatening to conquer the world. Comprised of scholars, scientists, athletes, forward thinking individuals and the occasional cur from around the world; The Engine of Perpetual Motion is the current nom de guerre of the most recent adaptation of this team of human defenders. Set in a Victorian era world where innovative technologies have blossomed mostly through the usage of steam-powered technology; the Engine of Perpetual Motion set forth to maintain humanity's dominance of the top of the food chain.
