Square Pickle

At a robot testing facility in Chicago, a tech designer named Kole Bloom is inches away from creating the next generation of military weapon... or losing his job. Bloom was hired six years before and has has only designed five robots to aid the troops in the times of war. Two of which never made it past the "Pre-Alpha" cycle. Bloom had make a robot that could prevent as many American casualties as possible, while also being able to function in various climates.

Bloom had a good feeling this time though. He tested everything perfectly. The defense flame cannons worked, the recharge process worked, and the robot was responding to voice commands. all that was left now was to Beta test it in a real-time situation. As Bloom and his bosses watched on, the robot would face the threat of a dummy with a SMG. The robot quickly opened his flame cannons, and did nothing. Bloom's embarrassment was obvious as his robot stared at the dummy with no movement.

Later that day Bloom was fired for waisting military money, and the robot became the project of Billy Aims and Savannah Jacobs. Bloom returned home to Rockford where he decided to retire with whats left of his military money. The robot he last worked on was being re-programed to aid the troops now, since it had already been marked as a failure in weaponry by the facility. Aims and Jacobs remade it to treat wounds, fix broken bones, and search for lost soldiers.

What they failed to realize is that when they deleted the original programing of Bloom's robot, they didn't wipe its data. Though deleted, the robot's data still contained the programing of Bloom's first design. The soldiers didn't know they were on the field with a trained killer.

After four years helping the military, the robot now jokingly referred to as "Beta Test-3" (poking fun at Bloom's failures) begins to be over ridden by a chip Bloom placed in it to repair its self during battle. Bloom believing the robot was a failure, never bothered to tell his former bosses about the chip placed in BT-3. The Robot began to act strange on the battlefield and shut itself off. Believing it to be broken the base sent it back to Chicago where for Aims to repair it.

When it got there however, BT-3 was acting normal and was placed in the Repair Room to be examined later. BT-3 then drained the energy out of the outlets in the room. Withing minutes the facility's power went out and the backup generator kicked on. Looking for the source of the sudden blackout, the security began to check the building for non-authorized citizens. When they looked inside the Repair Room, they found BT-3 had used the buildings energy as a battery and was "repairing" himself to his original "Kole Bloom" design. Before security could radio for Billy Aims to stop his robot, BT-3 noticed the gun on one of the security men's waist and uncovered his new flame cannons and began to mow past the small security crew.

Having not yet been programed to tell the difference between "friend" and "foe", BT-3 went on a murderous rampage through out the building and began seeing everyone he came across as a threat. Aims escaped and rushed to his nearby home to warn his wife and former partner Savannah about Beta's escape from the facility. He knew that only Kole Bloom himself would know how to shut down the robot's mind.

As Billy and Savannah began to search for Bloom, they seen half of the neighborhood in flames. To their amazement, Bloom's robot had not only remembered its former programing, but it had used Bloom's "Self Repair" chip to upload the information they had made it forget. If Bloom had finished testing, he may have realized that BT-3 had not yet understood who was on its side and who the enemy was. With fire cannons that could level a small building in minutes, Billy and Savannah knew no one in Chicago was safe if Kole Bloom couldn't be found.

Electric Heart

After driving due west to the other side of Northern Illinois, the couple found Bloom in his home watching television. After they explained to him what was going on in Chicago, Bloom told him that it wasn't his problem anymore and refused to help them. He claimed that if they had giving him more time to work with the robot, he never would have attacked innocent people. Bloom said he made a military bot to protect soldiers from harm, messing with his design is what turned it into an android.

After slamming the door on the Aims's, Bloom returned to his program. After they were gone, the guilt got to Bloom and he knew he had to go to Chicago. Two hours later Bloom arrived to near Chicago to find police blocking all people from entering the city. BT-3 had destroyed a small section of the city with his fire cannons, and when Bloom informed them that he help creat the android, he was immediately taken in. He explained to them that the android was a military bot that had not completed testing. The military themselves took no responsibility for Beta's actions and ordered the arrest of Billy Aims, his wife, and Kole Bloom. After being arrested by police, they were all rushed to the military base BT-3 had served days prior.

Upon arrival the three tech workers were placed in a room for immediate questioning. To their surprise the Sergent threw the body of BT-3 in front of them and began to shout, "Do you know what we lost stopping YOUR mistake?! We lost two choppers, thirty five men, and fifteen percent of Chicago! That's not including the innocent people who died for being in the wrong place at the wrong time!". Bloom and Billy Aims tried to explain themselves, but were told to be silent. The Sergent ordered for them to remain in military custody until they were given further orders.

The remains of Beta Test-3 were thrown in a creek near the base were they dumped all of their unused and broken equipment. The three prisoners who designed him were placed in an out-door fenced in area by themselves. They could see heavy rain and a thunderstorm coming near. Just when they thought things couldn't get any worse, lightning struck the ground near the base... moments later, all the power went out.
