Johnny Lee Powers was born in Memphis and raised a typical human. However, things changed around 16 when two things happened. The first was seeing a police officer remain indifferent as a man stole a preacher's wallet in broad daylight. He swore something should have been done about this.

The second thing that changed his life was obtaining a 1954 Chevy Belair from a junkyard. He worked that car until it was not only roadworthy, but was the fastest thing on four wheels in that town. Combined with learning to shoot hunting in the Smoky Mountains as well as driving into Mississippi to hunt in the swamps and flat land, he decided to not only follow Memphis' long tradition of being a town for Rockabilly and Rhythm and Blues, but also work as a bounty hunter.

Adapting a classic Greaser look, he is seldom seen without his black leather jacket or a beat-up acoustic guitar . . . unfortunately for the bad-guys, he had the brains (and the balls) to not only back up his words with a well-placed right hook (the "Memphis Haymaker") but also is notorious for that guitar, which the neck doubles as a twelve-gauge automatic shotgun which he designed himself! Not bad for some self-taught hillbilly.

He doesn't have the revenge motive or any particular personal reason outside of being horrified of the indifference of his hometown's law enforcement. No, he serves his justice . . . as well as Hasil Adkins-by-way-of-Howlin' Wolf-esque gutbucket Rockabilly just because it's what he enjoys.

There isn't truly a "rogue's gallery" that he has, but his reputation as a fast shot, loud musician and fast driver has built him a powerful reputation in the South. However, this doesn't show up. Offstage and away from work, he's rather relaxed, often appearing as lazy, especially when he sets up a hammock attached from his car to a street lamp. He is a big fan of Sun Rockabilly and Stax-Volt R N' B, ESPECIALLY the singles Billy Lee Riley did with Booker T. & the MG's. He also loves eating barbecue, and is currently in the market for installing a smoker into the trunk of his car . . . however, due to being too busy playing shows or fighting bad guys, he doesn't have the time to smoke it himself.

The "Beale Street Screamer"

Johnny purchased the car that would become the "Screamer" from a West Memphis junkyard. The former bootlegger car was used to run moonshine liquor, but was impounded by the police around the time of the Vietnam War.

Two years ago, Johnny came across it and bought it. With help from a few buddies at school, he took the car and hot-rodded it to a fine, four-wheeled rocket. It's built like a tank, reinforced steel body with a fuel-injected 560 horsepower engine with a four-on-the-floor transmission. Painted flat-black with a red stripe on the hood, roof and trunk. Needless to say, it's a vehicle the criminals in Tennessee do NOT want to see barreling down on them.

Johnny is a well-taught marksman. He spent almost all his life out hunting and fishing. It's something he grew up with. However, when he went from hunting hogs and deer to hunting bad guys, he had to be a little more subtle.

He took his old 12-gauge shotgun and adapted it into his old acoustic guitar. Whether it's fighting barflies in between sets or fighting bad guys, Johnny keeps his gun/guitar hybrid close by at almost all times.
