Nomar Nived, a long forgotten bastard son, grew up on the mean streets of Metro City. He never knew his parents, never knew the love of a mother or the legacy of his father. The name, in fact, was given to him by a cruel man with a twisted sense of humor. He had spent ten years in an orphanage almost straight out of a Dickens novel, where he learned that only the strong survive.
The tragedy of this was that this orphanage was subsidized by a "respectable" religious organization, whose donations for the upkeep of orphans were skimmed into the pockets of the administrators, in fact, plundered.
It was his first act of crime, taking a knife and threatening a teenage girl for her purse. His mistake, if you can call it that, was doing it a mere three blocks from the orphanage, and threatening the daughter of an investigative reporter.
The investigation into the abuse and neglect would have toppled lesser men and lesser organizations. But Dr. Paul Kantor, televangelist and leader of Kantor World Reach Mission, was able to, as it were, sacrifice an expendable vice president, and escape himself scot-free. Part of Kantor's damage control strategy was to adopt one of the orphans himself, in this case, Nomar.
And while Kantor tried to teach his adopted son virtue, what Kantor lived and Nomar learned was how to manipulate an audience, how to use charisma and oratory and appearance. And for the second decade of Nomar's life, he learned.
We now come upon the third decade. Unchecked greed and lust for power behind a facade of responsibility and respectability. He would have taken over Kantor's position as a wealthy businessman and reverenced religious leader, but a different fate waited for him.
Medical professionals have since recalled the drug Guf-102 for rare but serious side effects. It was previously used to treat migraine headaches, which were Nomar's cross to bear. While it may have cured the migraines, in a few rare cases, it caused mental unstability.

The Lost Journal
Mind Control: superior (rank 2)
Whether what happened from Guf-102 was of normal or divine origin, it caused the young Nomar to black out. He came to his senses in the basement of an abandoned ruined headquarters. Long forgotten names scrawled on the walls. An armory that once held a formidable arsenal, plundered, and showing signs of an explosion from the inside out, as if some unfortunate soul had triggered a weapon in his attempt to loot the building.
There was a journal, left behind. Written in a code. It took Nomar several weeks to decipher any of it, but Kantor's money had paid for a top level education, and it was his good luck that the encoded language was based in some form of English. While there were many strange and cryptic references to gnomes, bleach, and creme eggs that Nomar had not yet come to understand, there was a power to this journal with the tales it told. Stories of a man who repeatedly self-immolated himself and came back to life. Stories of another man who could create hundreds of duplicates of himself. Even stories of a high priest with the ability to manipulate matter. Epic tales of a war between this... league facing an immeasurably huge army and an unspeakably evil corporate monster.
The New League
Commander: superior (rank 2)
Whether the powers these three heroes had harnessed were obtainable, the legend itself was even more powerful. The disaffected, the disadvantaged, the poor, the weak of mind and soul would follow. He could make himself the new high priest, seeking the powers of the league, seeking to strike down the rich and powerful of the world, and to set himself as a leader of a new world order.
Within a few weeks, he had amassed his first followers, his disciples. While individually, they would have been written off as the dregs of humanity, collectively, so he told them, they would change the world. Someday, they would rebuild this headquarters into a new temple. Someday, they would harness the three forces. Someday, they would strike down the corporate empires of this world and their armies and set their order in place.
Signs Of Power
Regeneration: superior (rank 2)
It was called the R-Force. The original carrier of the R-Force could literally be vaporized by a tactical nuclear warhead and reconstitute himself with no ill effects. But he was long gone. So far, all that could be done was to take a set of dog tags that he had worn, had destroyed a hundred times, and had reconstituted with him, and use them as a channel for that power. The touch of the tags would heal any wound not mortal.
Someday, they would find a way to heal mortal wounds, bring the dead back. Someday they would find the other two powers - the power of animation and the power of duplication. And someday, they would have their own weapon designer, capable of taking the common and making them extraordinary.
Someday, Nomar Nevid would rule the world, with his new League.
